‘Outstanding’ care company praised for kindness
Home Instead, Northwich and Knutsford, a service providing at-home care and companionship to older people across Northwich, Knutsford, Holmes Chapel, and surrounding areas, has been awarded a top industry accolade – Outstanding.
Independent regulatory body, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), rated Home Instead as ‘outstanding’ in a report that described how ‘staff members genuinely cared about people, were exceptionally compassionate and put themselves out to ensure people received the care and support they needed.’
CQC inspectors interviewed clients, client families and staff before making their assessment, learning about the uniquely comprehensive level of care and companionship provided by Home Instead. One client is quoted in the report as saying, “Our caregiver helps us feel comfortable. He always comes in with a smile, he’s a breath of fresh air.”
Inspectors also noted that the culture within the service was ‘progressive, dynamic, open and reflective.’ They went on to say that ‘Every area of people's care and support showed evidence of thoughtfulness, kindness, learning and ongoing improvements. There was a clear focus on providing the best possible support for people, that was absolutely reliable, safe and centred on their choices and preferences. Everybody's feedback reflected this.’
Throughout the report, numerous anecdotes illustrate what made Home Instead stand out to inspectors.
In one example, the service was described as adaptable. One client became very anxious first thing in the morning, yet they needed their visit to be later in the day. The client had strategies to help them manage the anxiety, however if these did not work, it was arranged that they could ring the on-call phone if they felt like they needed reassurance or possibly a quick visit.
The client told inspectors, "I can be anxious in the morning. I can call for additional emotional support and reassurance. It helps to speak to someone on the phone. It reassures me to know I can call somebody, and they are always so nice."
Staff of Home Instead also praised the company. They described their training as ‘effective’ ‘interactive’ and ‘engaging.’ One staff member said, "I'm encouraged to grow. I feel supported in my role and this has promoted my confidence."
Wayne Harper, General Manager of Home Instead Northwich said, “We are delighted with the latest inspection results from the CQC. Reading all the amazing comments from clients, their family members, and staff have been so humbling. I am proud of the whole team for their dedication, passion and commitment to our most wonderful clients.”
Home Instead provides tailored support, typically comprising companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, personal care, medication reminders, shopping and errands for older people.
