We kicked off the “Be a Santa to a Senior” charity event yesterday in Sainsbury’s Swansea store. Santa made a guest appearance at lunch time and the Evening Post sent along photographers to record the event.

The Sainsbury’s customers were amazing. We were only in store for 5 hours and all the gifts on our list were purchased. One lady, who had cancer herself, bought a £30 gift. Home instead staff greeted customers and then educated them as to how the event worked. They loved the fact they were buying a gift for a real person in their community.

Home Instead staff will wrap and deliver the gifts to the sponsoring organisations. A special thanks to Age Cymru Swansea Bay, SSAFA Forces help and the ABMU NHS Trust Community Mental Health Teams for their help and support in identifying lonely and financially challenged seniors in Swansea.

Next year we will start sooner and build on this event. Sainsbury generously offered us 2 full days in both its Swansea stores – if we were able to have 62 gifts purchased in 5 hours what could we do in four full days?
