Home Instead Colchester Senior CAREGiver of the Month

Doesn’t Diane Do Well!

Every one of our CAREGivers is highly valued for the work they do, but to help you appreciate their efforts we have decided to focus on one each month so they can share what they enjoy about their role. Senior CAREGiver Diane Shape is the focus of our first CAREGiver of the Month article.

Diane, who recently celebrated her 60th birthday, says she gets total satisfaction out of her job. The grandmother was recently appointed to the role of Field Support Worker for Home Instead Senior Care Colchester.

“If anyone has any problems, I go and try to help out,” said Diane, who worked in the care sector for 25 years in a Nursing and Residential home looking after the elderly frail, dementia and Alzheimer patients. Prior to joining Home Instead, Diane worked in the Community with Reablement for 13 years after leaving the Care Home where  she worked as Support Head and was involved with opening cases, completing reassessments and implementing Care Plans.

Diane, who also has experience of working with people with Huntingdon’s Disease, said: “I have recently been looking at medication and making sure that everything is being done as it should be.”

Diane was attracted by the personal approach of Home Instead Senior Care and came into the job six months ago with a portfolio of professional certificates for training and a great deal of experience. She has worked with people from all walks of life, aged from 18 years upwards, with different care needs. She is used to caring for people, giving a wide range of support, from those needing help to regain confidence following a stay in hospital, to aiding people with personal, emotional or physical needs.

Diane said: “I love my job. It is a people-centred role. Unlike some other organisations, Home Instead Senior Care Colchester focuses on the people they are looking after. My role allows me to go along and spend time with people. I can go to their home and have a chat and make sure they are OK.

“This job gives me 10 out of 10 in job satisfaction. It is such a nice job to do. Having worked in care as long as I have, you can easily become disillusioned but coming to work here for Home Instead Senior Care in July, 2015, has been lovely. I have so much more energy because I am enjoying what I do so much.”

She would recommend other people to give it a go.

Diane has previously trained other staff for Moving and Handling people and also Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (SOVA).

She has an NVQ in Promoting Independence and Health and Social Care

Health and Safety and is experienced in Food Hygiene, Basic Life Support, SOVA, Mental Capacity Act, Infection Control, Medication and Related tasks to name but a few.

Experienced in assessing and implementing the care requirements for people, Diane is also used to documenting individual care plans for Carers to follow and making Environmental and Medication Risk Assessments and equipment requirements for individuals.
