Continue to stay connected to your local community in Wigan

Our team focuses on developing structure and familiarity as part of stability for home dementia care clients. From feeding the ducks in Priory Park to a cuppa and a treat in Miss V’s on Honey Street, we’re all about keeping up activities that keep the mind live and active. We also provide highly personal general assistance with daily tasks and medication management, and are on hand for regular check-ins or live in care to ensure your loved ones are never without support.

If you’re a home carer just needing some time off, we can also provide more incidental support such as home respite care or just occasional companionship so your loved one is not left alone when you have other pressures on your time. It’s all built around what you and your family need.

How is Companionship at Home Instead Wigan different?

  • 1-hour minimum visit length
  • All Care Professionals are fully introduced to the people they are looking after, with “shadow visits” being used when needed to ensure that the person receiving dementia care has good continuity and never feels alone with strangers
  • Our office team (and furry friends!) coordinate between clients, their families, the caregivers, health professionals and representatives (LPOAs and friends)
  • Training and development for our Care Professionals to improve their skills in supporting clients with dementia and Alzheimer’s
  • We can also support with shopping, gardening and other regular household tasks
  • Proper supervision and management for the caregiving team to provide emotional and mental health support for challenging dementia clients
  • We always ensure there is at least a 15 minute (paid) gap between scheduled visits so that Care Professionals can travel between clients without rushing or eating into their care time
  • Detailed dementia care planning which is focused on strengths rather than frailties, and based around the individual’s habits, needs, or wants
  • We’re big believers in “the mum test” - we only recruit caring and compassionate people who we would be happy to have to look after our own mums and dads!

It's our Care Professionals that make a difference

Our Care Professionals covering Bodmin include Julie, who loves taking in the hits both old and new at the Capitol Cinema, Margaret, who spends time cycling the Camel Trail on free days with her two cocker spaniels, and David, who can usually be found doing far too many laps of the pool in the leisure centre.

“I simply cannot speak highly enough of every aspect of the Home Instead service. Every caregiver gave a fantastic service and made my parents feel safe, comfortable and like friends. The support team were super efficient, friendly to deal with and helpful at all times. My whole family has felt like they could trust the care given and also mix in a positive way with caregivers when we were in my parent’s home.”
