Our Health Care Information Day connects individuals with resources & services to help them live independently at home, offering guidance & support from trusted organisations.
Since its inception in 2017, the event has grown into a vital opportunity for local residents and their families to explore support options. With exhibitors from North Somerset and beyond, this free-to-attend event showcases services, provides practical advice, and fosters collaboration between care providers and the community. Each year, we strive to make it more impactful, ensuring attendees leave feeling informed and empowered to navigate their health and care needs.
Launched on 21st September, this inaugural event brought together local and national organisations like The Stroke Association, Age UK, and Lloyds Pharmacy to assist the elderly. Highlights included a performance by The Goldies, and tea and cakes served in aid of Macmillan, raising £70. The event, opened by the Mayor and Mayoress, was a great success, prompting it to become an annual occurrence.
Continuing at Hope Church on 20th September, we expanded our roster, including exhibitors like John Hodge Solicitors and the Falls & Frailty Service. New features included a Scam Awareness workshop and a Nutrition Workshop in collaboration with Wiltshire Farm Foods, alongside fundraising for Macmillan’s Coffee Morning.
On 11th July, our final event at Hope Church saw the largest turnout yet with 20 companies, including Avon Fire & Rescue and Avon & Somerset Police. Refreshments supported Parkinson’s UK, with the Mayor and Mayoress gracing the event.
2020 put a stop to the momentum we had built up with this event, as COVID-19 shut down all public events from taking place. We had booked our exhibitors and planned to carry out the event at a brand new venue, but unfortunately we had to call off our plans for the year. There was no other option to move forward at the time.
Adapting to pandemic restrictions, we hosted a Virtual Health Care Information Day. Exhibitors provided videos explaining their services, compiled into a playlist on YouTube, which garnered over 250 views.
Resuming in-person on 5th October at Weston Library, the event welcomed new and returning exhibitors like Alive Activities and Medfeet Podiatry. The new Mayor, Councillor Sonia Russe, praised the event’s value to the community.
Hosted again at Weston Library on 14th June, this year included diverse organisations like Birch Dementia Centre and Macmillan Cancer Support. Increased attendance and positive feedback from Mayor Ciaran Cronnelly highlighted the event’s community impact.
On 14th June, a redesigned table layout at the library maximised visibility for the 24 attending companies. Mayor John Crockford-Hawley commended the variety of services available. Plans for 2025 include a new venue and a detailed pamphlet for attendees.
