The Care Quality Commission (CQC) were so impressed that they have just rated it as ‘outstanding’ for supporting older people to live life well.
This marks out 34th office to have achieved this much coveted outstanding rating.
Fred Mairet and his team were praised for their exceptionally high standard of person-centred care and support. This was not just for the care they provide to their clients, but for the wider community and those living with dementia.
The CQC inspectors found that the care support wasn’t just about the basic day to day requirements, but that Home Instead supports their clients to be active, eat well and enjoy life.
This was seen to be hugely important to every member of the team. They achieved this holistic support by understanding their client’s past accomplishments and their unique talents and skills, the report said.
Inspectors from the CQC also praised the ‘kindness and compassion’ of the caregivers.
In the report there are stories about shared interests between clients and caregivers. The CQC heard how caregivers encourage involvement in meaningful activities to promote their wellbeing such as cycling, visits to local attractions, exercise and celebrating special occasions.
There was also glowing praise from clients, relatives and friends. A friend of one client said: “We think all the caregivers are superb, understanding and compassionate. They have helped my friend to stay at home, close to friends, our church and the local places that matter’.
The CQC could see that Fred promoted a caring philosophy which his team described as inspirational. One caregiver told inspectors: “It is such an honour and a privilege to be able to spend time with the people we support and really get to know them. In this job I feel like I am doing something to make a person’s day happier.”
Martin Jones, managing director at Home Instead said in congratulating the team: “At Home Instead, we want to help our clients to lead fulfilled lives and Fred and his team at Westminster are truly embracing this ethos. Not only are they supporting their own clients to be active and enjoying life, but they are also sharing our values and caring experience with their local community.”
