Recently our CAREGiver Rachael came to us regarding an exciting and meaningful trip with her husband Dave. She sent us some information about the work they’d be doing, which is so fantastic we have to shout about it!
Rachael and her husband Dave began working as Christian Missionaries with children and the poor when they first met in China in 1994. They have worked for 8 years in China and Hong Kong, 6 in Scotland and are now in Wales.
Their mission is to bring hope, destiny and identity to young people and see that the unfortunate circumstances they are in does not define them.
They have been asked to speak at a Youth Camp in the Phillipines to over 120 teenagers who have grown up living on the dumpsite in Tondo, Manilla. Many of the teenagers are members of gangs who only know a life of crime.
Following speaking at the camp Rachael and Dave will then work with the younger children who live on the dumpsite, aiming to ‘bring the fun’ which is what they do best!
They will also travel to another area of the Phillipines – Santiago, which is home to an orphanage, school and a prison which they will also work with. The prison is a place where people, both guilty and innocent, wait for trial. Some have waited for 12 years only to be found innocent!
Rachael has said that their aim for this trip is to bring fresh eyes, ideas and energy to organisations already doing amazing work.
We really admire this fantastic trip Rachael and Dave are setting out on, and wishing them both all the best. We are looking forward to hearing all about it when they return!
