CAREGivers Who Make a Difference

At Home Instead, our approach to matching our clients with CAREGivers based on their hobbies and interests, is what makes us so different.

When we recruit our CAREGivers, our priority is to look for those with a kind heart and a passion to make a difference to the lives of their clients.

This past year many people were sadly unable to work due to the pandemic. This resulted in those from all different professional backgrounds enquiring about working in care.
Their previous experience in hospitality, retail, travel and arts became their biggest strength in caring for our elderly clients.

One particular CAREGiver, Clare, changed careers after 20 years and is “loving every minute” of being a CAREGiver.
We asked her a few questions about her decision to become a CAREGiver and how she feels now that she has been working for us for more than 6 months.

What attracted you to apply to Home Instead for the CAREGiver role?
I always wanted to be a nurse when I was growing up as I always had a desire to help people.
When the pandemic hit, I really wanted to help those who were suffering from loneliness as they were unable to see family and friends.
I found Home Instead and loved the fact it was about visiting people in their own homes, helping them to still live independently and offering companionship.

How has your skills in your previous profession helped you in your role as a CAREGiver? Having worked in customer-facing roles for over 20 years, I have met many different types of people.

This prepared me perfectly from learning to communicate with multiple different personalities on a daily basis.

What have you found rewarding about the role?

Just how much joy I bring to people by spending time talking to them or making them a cup of tea. I love hearing their memories which they share with me and taking an interest in their lives.

What would you say to someone who hasn’t worked in care, considering a career change but are feeling uncertain?

Just do it! I have never had a more rewarding job. I feel like every hour I am making a difference to people’s lives.

What has been the best aspect of your new role?

Meeting new people from all different walks of life, seeing the difference in people by offering them a little companionship and taking a genuine interest in them and their lives.

At Home Instead Wembley we pride ourselves in ensuring we recruit kind, compassionate CAREGivers who will provide the much-needed support your loved ones need.
