Being a CAREGiver

Our Caregivers are at the heart of everything that we do.  We believe that no matter how much physical support our clients may require, it is the emotional support that they receive from their Caregivers that really makes the biggest difference to them.

Our Caregivers are matched with suitable clients, visit them for at least an hour (and often much longer) and will only look after a small number of clients - this ensures that they can really get know their clients, enjoy the time that they spend with them and provide the physical and emotional support that our clients need.

Our Caregivers range in age from 18 to over 73 and like our clients, come from a variety of backgrounds.  Many have no formal experience of working in care, as we believe that being caring and compassionate is more important than experience and we provide excellent training, pay and on-going support.

On behalf of my father and the family I would like to express our thanks to the Home Instead team for the care and support provided to my mother over the last months of her life. I was impressed at the consistent high standard of care provided. Everyone involved with my mother treated her with consideration and respect, endeavouring to maintain her dignity in what were sometimes difficult situations when she was reluctant to accept the care she needed.  The commitment and dedication of the staff involved allowed my mother to fulfill her wish to stay at home despite her complex needs, and to die peacefully in her living room with the comforting presence of my father. Although the loss of my mother leaves us with much sadness and a huge gap in our lives we are very grateful that she experienced a good death.  Knowing that she was able to die peacefully at home is a comfort and help when we contemplate the inevitable future for ourselves.
