Cllr Elizabeth Baptiste, Kelly Hockett

Waltham Forest Memory Walk

On 25th September 2021, Kelly, our Care Manager, joined the Mayor of Waltham Forest, Councillor Elizabeth Baptiste, for a 10 km walk to raise money that will support people living with dementia and their carers in Waltham Forest. “Many people joined the walk, it was such an enjoyable and worthy initiative” said Kelly. The event was supported by both the Dementia Hub and the Council's Sport and Leisure team, along with their trained walk volunteers. All donations will be shared between the Waltham Forest branches of Age UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Home Instead partners with Parkinson’s UK

Home Instead partners with Parkinson’s UK We are delighted to announce a new partnership with the national charity, Parkinson’s UK. We are also pleased to be able to share our knowledge of the social care and difference home care can make and how people’s homes can provide a safe place for people living with a Parkinson’s diagnosis. What is Parkinson’s? Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world and it is estimated 1 in 37 people alive today will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s in their lifetime. However, there is still no cure, it gets worse over time, and with over 40 symptoms it is incredibly complex and unique to each individual. Around 145,000 people in the UK have Parkinson’s and there’s no cure at the present time. You can find more information on the condition as well as advice and support on the Parkinson’s UK website: www.parkinsons.org.uk. Why is this partnership beneficial for those who have Parkinson’s? We want people to be ab

Mental Health during Covid 19 & our Elderly

Mental Health During COVID-19 & Our Elderly

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a huge strain on mental health, especially our elderly. Here are some mental health tips for our elderly: 1. It’s important to get in touch with your GP if you have any concerns about your health. With the many routine health appointments being cancelled you may feel it’s not appropriate to contact your GP. This is not the case. GPs are still there to support your physical and mental health. Think about who can help you over this period. This may be friends and family but also local and national organisations. The Samaritans are available 24/7 for free on 116 123 (UK). 2. STAY CONNECTED: Use technology to your advantage. Facetime, Whatsapp or even making a call can make a huge difference. Look at any potential support groups. Phone, landline, mobile, smartphone, computer, internet are potential sources of support an
