Not Just a Job

Home Instead Senior Care are the pioneers of relationship-led care for the elderly, as not only do we put the client first in every situation but we build a bespoke service tailored around each client’s wants and needs. The Home Instead approach is completely different to any senior care service out there today, and we’re proud to say we’ve won awards for our service and training. What else makes us unique? We could think of no one better to describe the Home Instead way than Sharon, our first CAREGiver to join our team back in September 2015.

‘I choose to work with the team at Havant because they have a 1 hour minimum call out for each client, so we can spend real time with them, build that all important trusting relationship, and of course, we can make sure that they have everything they need and want. I had previously worked with children and was a full time mum for over 20 years before I joined the team at Havant so I had a little care experience. I’ve had a variety of training both in and out of the job, and of course I gain real experience everyday, but the role is not without its challenges. Personally, helping clients with dementia is my biggest challenge and knowing what to say when a client is either upset or confused is difficult. Luckily Mark Gettinby, Director of Home Instead Senior Care in Havant has extensive knowledge and experience in caring for the elderly from previous roles in the industry. Mark is also a Dementia Champion and coaches companies and groups on how to help people of all ages with Dementia so we also have a fountain of knowledge right at our fingertips.’

‘If anyone was looking for a change of career into caring I would say to them that it is very rewarding to make each client happy and it’s great to know you have been there for someone when they needed you the most. I found the team at Home Instead via a recommendation from a friend, they are easy to talk to, make me feel welcome and relaxed and I also know I am part of a team that is truly changing lives. The 4 day training programme covered everything I could possibly want or need to know for my new role, and with the added bonus of an observation period afterwards I had a fantastic introduction joining the team. We are all like-minded people and have a genuine desire to help others, and with our varied backgrounds we can easily be assigned to a client with similar backgrounds, interests, hobbies, and culture. I am so happy at work, it doesn’t feel like a job at all and I have the benefit of spending time in both the office and out with clients. You never stop learning in this role and I look forward to learning more as time goes on.’
