Home Instead warms up for National Fitness Day
The link between exercise, physical health and mental wellbeing is well known. At Home Instead, we actively encourage both clients and our team members to look after their health in every way possible.
National Fitness Day 2021 takes place on Wednesday 22nd September and is an opportunity to highlight the role that physical activity plays, and to raise awareness of its importance. Physical fitness enables us to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives, for longer, regardless of age and whatever our circumstances.
We are working purposefully within our communities to build relationships that benefit both our own clients and the public, and one such connection with great potential is that with our local LED leisure centres.
Operating for some time, the Wellness Hub at Exmouth LED* offers a fantastic facility, staffed by a very capable team, led by Samantha Harris who is a former Physiotherapist from the RD&E. Under careful supervision, users are invited to exercise using the power assisted equipment in the Wellness Hub.
Unlike regular exercise equipment, the power assisted element of these machines mean that the user doesn’t have to force an initial lift or movement through weight bearing. With the power assisted element, the movement happens regardless of push/pull from the user, and instead encourages them to create the further momentum.
The Wellness Hub at Exmouth LED offers guided sessions to LED members, and to guests on a pay as you go basis, so it’s accessible to everyone. They have also set aside a particular session from 1.30pm-3.00pm on a Thursday afternoon, specifically for participants and their carer/companion**. As we emerge from the restrictions and reduced activity of the recent lockdowns due to Covid-19, and head into the naturally more sedentary lifestyle of colder months, this facility could be invaluable.
Plus, we are thrilled to say that the local LED Wellbeing teams are very much behind our initiative to raise awareness regarding Dementia in our communities, and are planning to participate in our community workshops, to educate their own team members on conditions such as Dementia and Alzheimer’s. This means that our Home Instead goal of making our communities a friendly place for those living with Dementia, and their carers/family members, gets a step closer.
If yourself, or a loved one would benefit from our support to enable you to become a little more active, do get in touch. We offer person-centred care that is tailored to the needs of the client and ranges from simple companionship to more complex care, alongside conditions such as Dementia for example.
Equally, if you’re looking for a fulfilling job within your local community, then why not consider the role of CAREGiver with Home Instead. We offer full, award-winning training, great rates of pay, a range of contracts and real career opportunities to match your goals, via our Personalised Career Pathways scheme, where you can follow either a Care focussed or Management route.
