Meet the team

Mike & Catharine Chalton - Home Instead Chester Owners

Franchise Owners - Mike & Catharine Chalton

Mike was born on the Wirral and Catharine in Liverpool. They were married in Birkenhead and eventually settled on the Wirral. Prior to entering the care sector, both had successful careers. Mike worked in Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing with two prominent global companies, whilst Catharine trained as a nurse in the Army and is a Specialist Nurse with experience in General Practice Nursing, Respiratory Nursing and Health Research.

Despite their respective successful careers, both Mike and Catharine reached a point where they wanted to make a significant difference to their community through their work and they began seeking a new challenge together. Ultimately, they found Home Instead, and they committed themselves to their mission when they became one of the earliest franchise owners in the UK during 2007.

As franchise owners, they make a perfect team. Since joining the Home Instead family over fifteen years ago, they have worked tirelessly to build their highly respected franchise in Wirral, which is rated Outstanding by CQC, and further recognised through a string of national awards.

Always keen to give back to their community, Mike and Catharine set up their charitable organisation The Wirral Care Foundation in 2007, to support local community projects through a grant scheme. They have helped numerous projects over the years and continue to do so today.

Having also become owners of the Chester & Cheshire West franchise in 2021, they are actively involved in the day to day running of the business and in supporting the operations and CAREGiver teams to help them flourish and grow over the coming years.

Mike and Catharine are also active members of the BFA, and Catharine sits on the board of both the BFA and the EFF (European franchise federation). Their wealth of experience and professionalism means the company has a bright future.

As Business Director, Mike uses his considerable business skills to guide and direct the business, whilst taking a keen daily interest in the welfare of both staff and clients. He acts as a mentor to many key players, supporting them in the progression of their careers.

Catharine is the Director of Care, and she uses her knowledge of people’s needs to ensure each client receives the service they desire, whilst respecting all regulations and standards. She is also a prominent and respected businesswoman, being named ‘Woman Franchisee of the Year 2020’ at the Encouraging Women into Franchising (EWIF) awards.

She is also an advisor to the board of the Homecare Association and a remains a practising nurse, having been actively involved in the COVID vaccination program for local care home residents during the pandemic.

Nia works closely with the CAREGiver team, and she knows each one in person. She strongly believes that this holistic experience helped her succeed in her role, which she loves.

Nia said, ‘It’s easy to say you love your job; however, joining Home Instead was one of the best things I have ever done for myself and my career.

Office Administator - Colin Maros

As our Office Administrator, Colin plays a key role in supporting our Care Operations team in Chester. He is central to supporting the team on a day-to-day basis in addition to implementing a paperless office system.

Originally from India,  Colin is an electronics engineer by profession, latterly working as part of a start-up enterprise, helping it become established. However, Colin wanted to broaden his experience and moved to the UK in early 2021. Shortly after arriving, the outbreak of the pandemic quickly hampered his original plans, and so he found a role supporting the vaccination programme in local care homes. It was there that he met our co-owner Catharine Chalton, who, as a practicing nurse, was administering vaccines to local elderly people. She immediately saw Colin’s potential and invited him to discuss working at Home Instead.

Colin says, ‘Things happen for a reason and so meeting Catharine opened up a wonderful opportunity for me. Home Instead is also a wonderful company and I’m delighted to be part of the family.’
