Therapy Pets at Home

Anyone who has spent time in the company of a beloved pet knows the powerful effect that animals can have on people.

The company of a pet can be invaluable in bringing purpose and engagement for people of all ages, but it is especially beneficial for older people.  Spending time with an animal can help to combat loneliness and isolation, and can bring comfort and companionship.  Research shows that even just spending a small amount of time with a pet can help to reduce stress and promote overall health and wellness, both physically and mentally.

Of course, pet ownership can be a huge responsibility.  Animals take a great deal of looking after so having a pet isn’t always a practical solution.  However older people can still have access to these health benefits through a visit from a pet therapy animal.

Here at Home Instead, we are very lucky to have two well socialized, well behaved Labradors called Burdock and Paddington.  Along with owners Matthew & Samantha, the lovable dogs will be visiting clients on a regular basis, providing canine cuddles and companionship and offering all the therapeutic benefits that therapy animals can bring.
