What is companionship care?

When people think of care at home, they often think of things such as bathing, dressing or medication support.  Whilst we do offer these services at Home Instead, our remit stretches much further, with activities designed to aid your mental wellbeing as well as your physical health.

Companionship is a huge part of what we do.  More than just occasional company, our CAREGivers build professional, meaningful relationships, help out around the home and encourage and support clients to stay active and connected within their community.

Companionship care can help to combat loneliness and isolation – both of which are increasingly common in older adults.  Many older people can often go for weeks without speaking to anyone at all.  Many of our clients come to us because they don’t have any family, or if they do, it’s because they live far apart or circumstances make it difficult to stay in touch.

Our CAREGivers can help you to stay connected – whether you are looking for someone to accompany you to appointments, drive you to the supermarket and help with your grocery shopping or explore social activities in your local community.   Having someone to offer your support and encouragement to participate in the hobbies and activities you enjoy, can help you continue the lifestyle that you know and love.

Whilst for some, getting out and about in the community is key to their wellbeing, our companionship care doesn’t just end there.  It also covers a range of ‘home help’ options to help you maintain your independence at home, such as:

  • Light housework incl. laundry and ironing
  • Meal preparation
  • Pet care
  • Gardening
  • Personal admin, arranging appointments etc
  • Conversation and reminiscing

If you require some additional help around the home, or would simply like regular company and conversation, our CAREGivers are committed to help you achieve this, enabling you to live your life to the fullest.

Our dedicated team are professionally trained and have been DBS checked so you know you are in safe hands, but above all that they are hired because of their genuine, caring and compassionate nature and their willingness to make a difference to your day.
