Growing our team of Dementia Friends
As part of their ongoing training, Home Instead Wrexham & Flintshire invite all new CAREGivers to attend a Dementia Friends session when they join the team.
A Dementia Friend is someone who has attended an information session and committed to take an action that will improve the lives of people living with dementia.
Dementia Friends is part of the Alzheimer’s Society initiative to create more dementia-friendly communities. Our in-house Dementia Champion works closely with the Alzheimer’s Society and the local dementia-friendly groups to ensure that we are doing all we can to enhance the lives of not just our clients living with dementia, but all those who are affected within our local communities.
Speaking about the sessions, Community Engagement Coordinator, Heather Collin, who is also the Dementia Champion for Home Instead Wrexham and Flintshire said: “I’m delighted how many Dementia Friends we have created within our team, and to see how enthusiastic our caregivers our about the initiative. Dementia is a cause close to all our hearts, and it’s great to see a dementia-friendly approach being adopted not just in care environments, but also within the wider community in Wrexham and Flintshire.
Dementia Friends sessions are really useful for anyone interested in understanding a little more about dementia, not just for those who are employed in the care sector. They are completely free to attend. I would urge any local groups or individuals who feel they would benefit from one of our information sessions* to get in touch.”
To find out more about the information sessions and become a Dementia Friend, please contact the Home Instead office on [email protected] or contact Heather on 07557 538 050.
*Dementia Friend sessions are currently running on zoom so access to a laptop or computer is essential. In-person sessions will re-commence once restrictions allow.
