With care of the elderly rising to the top of the political agenda, a business specialising in caring for older people in their own homes has opened in Welwyn Garden City. The office is looking to create 50 jobs in the coming year.
For owner, local lady Heather Simms, this is an exciting new venture and a chance to combine her business skills with the opportunity to help other people and put something back into the local community.
Heather, who lives in St Albans, has been looking to start her own business for some time and was inspired to set up a Home Instead office locally after talking to her good friend and neighbour who runs the Home Instead office in St Albans.
Speaking about her decision to set up the business, Heather says, “I was looking for a business which would put me at the heart of the local community and providing care for elderly people certainly does that.
“The way we deliver care is very different to that provided by task-based care agencies. For example, our visits are typically of one hour duration, allowing our team of caregivers to spend quality time with clients. We also match clients and caregivers so they share common areas of interest.”
Heather is keen to talk to local people with compassionate and caring natures who are interested in working with elderly people. She is keen to stress that candidates don’t need to have experience in the care sector as they will receive excellent training, but they may well have experience looking after a relative or friend.
Commenting on their need to recruit local CAREGivers, she said: “We need local people to come forward and be part of our team. We will only employ people who are committed to making a difference, treating our clients with dignity and respect and working to the highest professional standards. I would urge local people who might be interested to get in touch.”
