Companionship and Befriending Service
Safely helping to reduce loneliness and isolation
Here at Home Instead Wandsworth, we help keep the communities of Wandsworth, Lambeth, Dulwich and surrounding areas to stay connected with loved ones by providing a befriending service to those who may feel isolated, lonely or just in need of a companion.
We use a team of kind and compassionate CAREGivers who will safely visit the home to check your loved one is happy, safe and healthy. We also use easy-to-use technology that helps to keep families connected and allows you to check-in on your loved one from time to time.
In today's climate with the need for self-isolation and safe distancing, there are times when we have all felt isolated and alone, this is something that we have seen increase amongst adults who are unable to go outside due to restrictions or regulations.
Loneliness can affect everyone and anyone, but as we age, we tend to feel more isolated, vulnerable and alone, especially after a bereavement, a slight decline in health or mobility has reduced and become limited.
For many, the thought of feeling lonely in old age is terrifying, loneliness has a significant impact on health and is known to be associated with depression, appetite and a decline in physical activity.
We believe that age shouldn't be a barrier to adventure and happiness, having a companion and someone to talk to even for a little chit-chat can help improve your quality of life and offer a feeling of self-worth.
CAREGivers Make True Companions
Our CAREGivers are wonderful, kind-hearted people who go above and beyond to help keep our client's safe, protected and smiling at all times.
Whether your loved one needs groceries and medication collected, company while they enjoy a cup of tea a natter or someone who can go for a safe stroll with them outside, our CAREGivers will make the greatest of companions.
Safe Activities to Do Indoors
We’re lucky to have an office filled with a team of highly- trained, compassionate CAREGivers who will come to visit the home and make an activity plan that incorporates mental and physical activities that your loved one really enjoy.
Activities can include:
- Writing a life journal
- Listening to music
- Easy painting
- Armchair exercises
- Creating memory books
- Using technology
- Safely going outside
And much, much more
Let Technology Keep You All Connected
Now is the time to embrace technology, there are amazing gadgets available that are simple to use and that can really help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
For example, easy-to-use radios that are preprogrammed to your favourite music channels and handheld devices which with one or two touches of your finger can connect you to your family or favourite quizzes and games.
We can help you choose something and set it up for you so you have all the benefits and none of the worry.
These aides can also help your family keep in contact with you and know that you are okay on a day-to-day basis.
