"A Blizzard Couldn't Keep Me Away!"

The Care Workers Charity hold an annual Writing Competition, aimed at care workers who can submit entries about their daily lives and celebrate the passion of staff who routinely go the extra mile.  When we announced details of the competition to our staff, our CAREGiver Monique immediatetly knew she had to enter!

Monique had never really planned to go into care; in her own words, ‘it sort of just happened’. Having moved back home to help care for her grandma and grandad, Monique thought, ‘I’m doing this for my grandma and grandad, maybe I can do this as my career’. A career in care followed, and one she is truly passionate about.

Not only did Monique enter the competiton, but we were so proud when she was announced as the winner! Putting her experiences onto paper, Monique wrote a beautiful poem ‘A Blizzard Couldn’t Keep Me Away’, which she was inspired to write based on a couple of her clients she had cared for over the years. There was an actual incident on Christmas Day when she had to travel to a client and did get stuck in the snow. It was Monique’s passion for her job and her desire to get to her client and spend Christmas Day with her as no one else could, that made her continue her journey.

Here is a video of Monique reading her own very beautiful poem, which I am sure you will agree is a very worthy winner!

We here at Home Instead Oldham & Saddleworth are very proud of you Monique!

The Care Workers Charity continues to run the writing competition and is encouraging care workers to submit entries about their daily lives and help celebrate the passion of staff who routinely go the extra mile.
