Working with Itaca, we have recently launched our latest project: Abergele Friendship Group.
Being based in Abergele, we wanted to start something that everyone could be a part of, regardless of their interests or hobbies.
That’s why we have set up this FREE friendship group, which is Dementia inclusive and wheelchair accessible.
At the friendship group, attendees can enjoy informal conversations, activities, group discussions and more. It is a way to connect and engage with other local people in a relaxed atmosphere.
The meetings take place every 3rd Wednesday of each month, 2pm until 4pm at:
Launching the group was a huge success, with various local people in attendance.
Tesco Abergele Community Champion, Jan, came to show their support, as well as deputy Mayor Shirley Priestly-Jones.
Local residents praised the idea, commenting things like ‘…this is just what Abergele needs’.
Our Community Relations Manager, Lucie, found:
“… many people come to Abergele to retire and do not necessarily know what it was like previously. Many have limited knowledge of the area or the people within it. This is why we wanted to set up something like this, to be allow those people to connect.”
At the launch, past pictures of Abergele sparked particular interest amongst those who are relatively new to the area. Although they may not be able to reminisce on the specific area, the photos did help to generate conversations about the past in general. It is these conversations that help reveal more about each other, helping the group to build relationships.
