How To Check Live Hospitial Waiting Times

In Conwy and Denbighshire, we are lucky enough to have various local hospitals to go to in case of an emergency. But do we really know which one is the best to go to?

Some of these hospitals are more popular and therefore have more patients visiting, whilst others may not be thought of but have resources available that are not being utilised. This leads to long delays in waiting times which could potentially be life changing in some cases.

The ‘Live Wait Times’ app, available from the Google Play store, helps combat this problem and allows you to make an informed decision when choosing the best A&E for your circumstances.

The app allows you to search for local NHS hospitals, where you'll find the latest known waiting time estimation. Searching for hospitals can be done using postcodes, geographic area or phone/ device location.

Times displayed are only an estimate to the time expected to have to wait, which can change at any time by the specific hospital. How often the waiting times are refreshed differ between each hospital, therefore the time of the last refresh should be considered when choosing your best option.

Although the app gives a guide to what the waiting times might be, these cannot be guaranteed due to varying emergencies and unpredictable patient numbers.

When on the app, more information can be found by tapping into a specific hospital. It will reveal information such as treatments offered, parking and any charges, as well as opening times.

Having a better idea of the time you are likely to spend at hospital may help people reconsider how urgent their situation may be. For example, if you have a minor injury and see that the waiting time is over 4 hours then you might be inclined to postpone your visit or book a doctor’s appointment instead. This has the potential to cut down waiting times and ensure resources are being fully utilised.
