The sessions generate awareness and provides people with a better understanding of Dementia. Over one million Dementia Friends in England and Wales have the knowledge of small things you can do to make a difference and have committed to an action that will make the lives of people living with Dementia a little bit better.
The initiative was launched to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding which can lead to loneliness and social exclusion of those living with Dementia.
The aim of the Abergele Steering Group is to change people’s perceptions of Dementia through an hour-long information session.
Speaking about the sessions, our very own Lucie Williams, secretary of the Abergele Steering Group and Dementia Champion, said; ‘These Dementia Friend sessions are really useful for anyone interested in understanding a little more about dementia. By delivering these sessions to people in the community, we hope to improve the lives of those living with the disease and generate awareness of the support available for patients, families and carers.’
Lucie continued, ‘I would urge any local groups or individuals who think they would benefit from this training to get in touch.’
Located in the Tesco Abergele Community Meeting Room, sessions are all wheelchair accessible and will be delivered by various local Dementia Champions.
Dates of the sessions include;
- Friday 7th April- 11.30 am
- Wednesday 12th April- 6.30 pm
- Thursday 13th April- 2 pm
- Friday 21st April- 11.30 am
- Tuesday 25th April- 6.30 pm
- Thursday 27th April- 2 pm
Places are limited and do need to be booked prior. Further dates can be found on the Facebook page, although private sessions can be arranged for groups.
Being more patient in shop queues, campaigning for change, telling friends about Dementia Friends or visiting someone living with Dementia, every action counts.
