Be A Santa To A Senior Success!

Back in December, our office turned into Santa's workshop after an overwhelming response to our Be A Santa To A Senior initiative.

The initiative is all about making sure those older people, who may be on their own, still receive a special little present to open on Christmas day.

To reach those living on their own, we chose to work with 3 local charities; Age Connect, Contact the Elderly and the Red Cross.

Our team hosted information stands in the Bayview Centre in Colwyn Bay, White Rose Centre in Rhyl and TESCO Prestatyn. The stand was also used as a drop off point for members of the public to bring their donations.

We received support from local high schools, Ysgol Bryn Elian and Ysgol Prestatyn High, plus support from local Councillor Janet Finch- Saunders, who kindly offered her office as a drop off point for the donations.

In total, we received over 700 gifts- over 5 times more than last year!

Members of the public, caregivers and school children all offered their free time to help wrap the presents.

North Wales Fire Servicealso joined in and offered their time delivering the gifts to the charities, as well as private addresses that had been nominated.

The initiative was such a success that not only did we manage to ensure everyone through the chosen charities received a present, but we also managed to give a gift to patients who have no family or visitors in hospital. We delivered to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Ysbyty Abergele, Ysbyty Colwyn Bay and Ysbyty Llandudno.

The giving didn’t stop there!

We were also able to deliver presents to MIND Aberconwy in Llandudno, Bryn Hesketh in Colwyn Bay, Hafod Y Parc in Abergele, Tannery Court in Abergele, Tan Y Fron in Llandudno, as well as some residential address of people who’s names had been put forward to us as they were known to be alone.

This was so overwhelming.

One lady became teary and couldn’t thank us enough, saying we were angels. We explained we were simply delivering the gift and it was the kindest of our community that made this all happen.

All this said, we want to say a huge heartfelt THANK YOU TO YOU ALL! The success of this initiative was all made possible due to the kindness of the local people of Conwy and Denbighshire.
