Abergele Dementia Friendly Awards Ceremony

Having been affiliated with Dementia Friendly Abergele, we were pleased to have been invited along to the first awards ceremony, accepting an award for our work towards working to become dementia friendly.

Held at the Abergele Town Council, award certificates were presented by various steering group members and the Abergele town mayor, Cllr Delyth MacRae.

Home Instead were among one of the local businesses to be recognised for our achievements, with others including; Co Op Abergele and Pensarn, Howell Jones Solicitors, Abergele Town Council, Tesco Abergele, McCoubrey Cooke and Ysgol Bryn Elian.

Representatives from the businesses, town councillors and representatives from the police force filled the room and were later invited to enjoy complimentary refreshments, allowing us time to meet and share ideas of how to create a dementia inclusive community right here in Abergele.

Beverley Wilkinson, our Registered Care Manager, said:

‘The group have done a great job getting the initiative up and running in Abergele. We have completed our first lot of pledges, but now have the task of committing to some new ones to maintain our affiliation with the group and ensure work towards an inclusive community continues.’

Being Dementia Friendly is a long-term goal that requires constant work. This means ongoing assessments will be carried out by the group to ensure that the commitments are being fulfilled and therefore genuine changes are evident in creating a more Dementia Friendly Abergele.

Here at Home Instead, we are committed to have all our CAREGivers and staff members as Dementia Friends, thanks to our Dementia Champions we have in the team.  We provide specific training for the carers who visit clients that are living with dementia. We have also funded the creation of the website for the group and our very own Community Relations Manager, Lucie, is the secretary of the steering group.
