Home Instead is honoured to be recognised at both national and local level as the top employer in care.
The titles of Best Large Employer and Best Local Franchise Employer, for our Basingstoke office, were received in the inaugural Best Employers in Care Awards, announced by independent research agency Smith & Henderson.
What’s particularly special about these awards is that the winners have been selected based on the feedback of employees – in our case, our 8,500 CAREGivers who work tirelessly to deliver our relationship-led care to older people across the UK.
“To receive these awards at both a national and local level is a testament to Home Instead’s mission to change the face of ageing,” said Martin Jones, Managing Director of Home Instead.
“To deliver our unique brand of high quality, relationship-led care we need high quality, compassionate people. Unfortunately, many people view care as menial work, but we say it’s anything but menial – it’s meaningful. We have a people-focused ethos which ensures our CAREGivers receive award-winning training, that they are matched with clients based on their interests and that they’re given enough time to deliver care, with minimum one hour visits.
“There is a significant need to recruit more people into the care sector, and we hope that these awards will show people that they can have a fulfilling career in care with us.”
The results of the survey carried out by Smith & Henderson ahead of the awards showed why Home Instead deserves the title of Best Large Employer, with 96% of CAREGivers saying they are proud to work for us. 94% also said they felt well matched to their clients and that they were given enough time to deliver care. Perhaps most tellingly, 97% of CAREGivers said they would recommend our services to a friend, showing their belief in Home Instead’s ethos of companionship-led care.
“The winners of these inaugural awards should be commended because they are based on feedback from their care workers and thousands of others,” said Steven Frost, CEO of Smith & Henderson.
“The care sector too often receives negative publicity – in contrast, these winners have established strong cultures whereby carers have the right support and training; are well led and have a strong commitment to delivering excellent service."
What our CAREGivers say:
“It’s lovely working for Home Instead because we’re given the time to really get to know our clients. Little things make a big difference – remembering how they like their toast or what their favourite song is. Because I see the same people every week, I’ve built very strong bonds with them and I feel incredibly privileged that they trust me so implicitly.”
Judi Waymouth, Home Instead Exeter and East Devon
“I’ve had the best training I’ve ever had in this job. Everything was well explained and made me feel confident and comfortable in my work. And I’ve no plans of stopping any time soon.”
June Shepherd, Home Instead Sheffield
“Working in care is not just about the job, it’s about who I am working for. Working at Home Instead, I know what good care should be. I am given the time to care – I don’t have to be busy all the time with tasks, and I can sit and talk with my clients.”
Simon James, Home Instead Cardiff
“I simply love the job, I feel I’m doing something really worthwhile. It’s nice to have the feeling that you’re doing your best for people. We give respectful care, care where our clients’ wishes and needs are at the fore. That’s something I’m proud to be part of. I’m trusted to do a great job and I consider that an honour in turn.”
Janet Pickles, Home Instead Northwich
“I really enjoy going to visit my clients. Our visits are always at least an hour and we see the same people every week so you build really strong bonds with them. It means a lot to be able to help them stay where they feel most comfortable – in their own homes.”
Josh Lekha, Home Instead Epping Forest
