Our CAREGiver Jude completes London to Brighton Cycle ride in aid of British Heart Foundation
On 16th June 2019, our amazing CAREgiver Jude Payne took part in London to Brighton Cycle ride. The Cycle Ride is the British Heart Foundation's flagship event covering 54 miles from the crowds at Clapham Common to the buzz at Brighton beach, passing through beautiful Sussex countryside.
Jude stated that she prepared for the ride by cycling at Shooters Hill Nightingale Vale and then up from Plumstead to Welling; a nice short, an hour ride, this was her main ride. She then went on 4 x 20 miles rides, so she didn’t get too saddle sore on the day. London to Brighton ride is not a new thing for Jude, she has done the ride 9 times before as heart disease runs in the male side of her family.
She said, “My main worry is always waking up at 4am to cycle 3 miles to get out lift to Clapham at 4.30am. We start at 6am and get there 1/2 hour before. We still took 1/2 hour to get over the start line. We have a 3 stops to all meet up. Unless you want to do it on your own. And we meet up at Brighton. I really enjoyed the day even though it was the worst ever weather. The rain hurt your face a times. And it was hard to see and the face I was pulling. Wasn’t a good look. Still sun was shining at the end”.
Jude complete the ride in 4 hours and 50 minutes cycle time, excluding breaks. Jude said “we had a fabulous day; we sat in Sun and had a well-deserved drink and listen to a band afterward -very nice”. Jude raised £100.00 for British Heart Foundation, Home Instead – Greenwich & Bexley matched the fund making it £200.00 in total.
