Jay Thapa wins Team London Award 2017

6th November 2017, the Mayor Sadiq Khan, organised London’s most generous volunteering stars who are helping to make the city’s communities stronger and more cohesive, as he recognised outstanding individuals, young people and organisations at the annual Team London Awards; in absence of the mayor, Deputy Mayor Joanne McCartney thanked the winners, nominees, guests and participants. Among the dignitary guests were, Dame Barbara Windsor DBE, Colonel (Retired) Hugh Purcell, Dr Alison Mowbray, Wayne Hemingway MBE, Stephen Greene, actor Christopher Biggins, Darwin Bernardo and James Banks.

Jay Thapa, son of Home Instead – Greenwich & Bexley owners Sonia and Fatta Thapa was awarded with the prestigious Team London Award in the Environment and Healthy Living (Under 25) category for his outstanding contribution to volunteering. Being a grammar school boy, using his IT & Social media skills, Jay helped his mum, Sonia, who runs Home Instead’s charity wing, Skills & Care and bridge the gap between the needy people and the supermarkets. Working with local M&S and other supermarkets, Jay & Sonia distributed tones of surplus food to the needy people in the community. The project not only minimised the food wastage but also helped improve health & wellbeing of service users.

Home Instead - Greenwich & Bexley since its inception in 2015, has been providing person-centred, relationship-led care to older people in their own homes and through its charity Skills & Care, helps people from marginalised communities.
