We are among Top 50 Urban Food Heroes in London

17 May 2018, Home Instead supported charity, Skills & Care named among the Top 50 Urban Food Heroes in London, the award certificates were handed-in to the winners at a celebration at the City Hall, London. The organiser, London Food Link – the voice for good food in London that coordinates a network of people, businesses and organisations that promote and campaign for good food in the city. The event has been running annually since 2012 working with the Capital Growth food growing network and is supported by The Mayor of London.

Research shows that food security and poverty is in raise and staying nourished is a widespread issue for people in the UK, especially among the older people. Malnutrition is both a cause and a consequence of ill health and particularly, older people are at an increased risk. Research also shows that 1 in 10 malnutritioned people in the UK are over 65 years of age and nearly 1/3 of over 85’s are at risk; cost to malnutrition to healthcare is £19bn.

Home Instead joined forces with local charity, Skills & Care to help combat malnutrition by promoting good food in Greenwich & Bexley area. Skills & Care collected surplus food from local Marks & Spencer and local allotment and turn them into delicious and nutritional meals that were distributed to homeless people, an under-5 centre, older people, war widows and veterans. Home Instead in other hand, continually raising awareness through its #StayNourished campaign that aims to inform people in your local community about how to eat and drink well in later years.

Home Instead provides care older people in their own homes so that they can live independently in their own homes for longer. As a part of their service, Home Instead’s CAREGivers prepare healthy and balanced meal of their clients and help them remain well-nourished.
