Home Instead - Greenwich & Bexley hosted a Coffee Morning on Friday, 25th September 2015 and raised £110 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The event was held at Tom Smith Community Centre in Greenwich.
The event brought together the elderly resident of Tom Smith close and provided an opportunity to mingle with Gurkha war widows and Home Instead CAREGivers. Later age of life can be very lonely and Home Instead constantly endeavours to contribute to the community so that elderly people can feel sense of belonging. Through our companionship services, we help isolated older people to remain in their own homes by supporting them to be independent. Home Instead provide minimum of one hour visit, and that means the CAREGiver will have enough time to build relationship with the clients and hence the quality person-centred care is provided.
The Coffee morning also gave a chance for residents of Tom Smith Close to find out more about Home Instead. A 95 year old lady from Tom Smith Close, who participated in the coffee morning, said that “I wish if there were more of these kind of activities at the community centre”. Another carer, who cares for her mother was very pleased that she came by, she wishes to bring her mother along next time, when there is an event.
All the CAREGivers, Gurkha ladies and residents of Tom Smith Close enjoyed the Coffee Morning. The coffee morning event coordinator, Natalie McLaren said – “I would like to say a “massive” thank you to all CAREGivers and other participants who were able to attend our Coffee Morning and even bigger thank you for taking time out of your own time to bake and purchase”.
