Fatta and Sonia Thapa - Owner/Director
Hi! We are Fatta and Sonia Thapa, owners of Home Instead Senior Care - Greenwich & Bexley. We have been living in the area for the last 21 years. Most recently, we had an opportunity to work with elderly widows of Gurkha soldiers, most of them in their late 80’s; some of them had Dementia and Parkinson. Loneliness is their biggest barrier. We always wished that they had someone to talk to. Then, we came across Home Instead Senior Care, who not only deliver personal care of highest standard, but also ensured that clients’ other social needs are also met through its companionship services. We were very impressed by the ethos and culture of the organisation. So, we joined this amazing organisation and committed ourselves to change the face of care provision across Greenwich & Bexley.
We are very proud to be a part of Britain’s No 1 Home Care provider.
We have three adorable kids and they mean world to both of us. Outside our work life, we both love to spend time with our kids and also spare a few hours every weeks for elderly Gurkha widows to teach them English and signpost them to local services through our registered charity Skills & Care Greenwich.
Kerry McDonald - Registered Care Manager
Hi! I’m Kerry and I am the Registered Care Manager at Home Instead Senior Care- Greenwich and Bexley.
I have worked in the care industry for the past six years and have worked my way up from care worker, to team leader, to coordinator to Registered Manager and have experience in both residential and domiciliary care. Having experience in each of these roles allows me to relate to and share my experiences with my team which I believe is extremely beneficial.
When looking into different care companies, HISC really stood out amongst its competitors due to the ethos and culture they uphold and the fact they are so passionate about providing quality person centred care. In my role as Registered Care Manager I ensure that the team at Greenwich and Bexley are compliant with CQC requirements and support both the CAREGivers and Clients with any concerns/queries which arise. I have always loved my job as it is extremely rewarding being able to help others, to meet so many interesting people from an array of backgrounds and the fact that no two days are ever the same.
I am a very social person so enjoy spending time with friends and family outside of work. Having grown up in a family where the majority were men, I also enjoy participating in martial arts and watching football on the television (I’m an avid Liverpool fan!). I am also an adrenaline junkie and have completed two skydives in which I raised money for the Alzheimer’s Society and for a hospice which had cared for a loved one.
Kathleen McKnight - Care Coordinator
Hi! I’m Kathy and I am the Care Coordinaor at Home Instead Senior Care- Greenwich and Bexley. I have worked in the care industry for the past 2 years and before that I worked at Mecca Bingo for 15 years. When an opportunity arose to join Home Instead, I did my own research as I hadn’t heard about Home Instead before and what I found out was amazing; I immediately fell in love with Home Instead and its ethos and culture.
I am so glad that I joined a company that strives towards changing the face of ageing and is the No 1 Care Company in the UK, having won Queen’s Award for innovation in care. Each client receives person-centred care at Home Instead and each visits are minimum of 1 hour, which means CAREgivers get to spend a quality time with their clients and build a meaningful relationship.
Apart from supporting my Care Manager and Director, my other main role is to Identify suitable CAREgivers for new and existing clients through our Client-CAREgiver matching process, I also plan and coordinate CAREgivers schedules on a weekly basis and communicate schedules to all relevant parties in a timely manner.
I really like my job as it is extremely rewarding being able to help others, to meet so many interesting people from an array of backgrounds and the fact that no two days are ever the same.
I am a very social person so enjoy spending time with friends and family outside of work and taking trips to the beach with my 2 children.
Pauline Cahill - Community Coordinator
Hi my name is Pauline, I work as a Community Coordinator at Home Instead Senior Care - Greenwich & Bexley. Part of my job I network and coordinate various events in the local community.
Prior to joining Home Instead, I have been working with Age UK for the last 14 years, coordinating, facilitating and delivering various projects in the community. I have know Fatta the owner of Home Instead - Greenwich & Bexley for many years, when the opportunity came up to join the amazing team, I did not think twice. I know Home Instead is a great company to work for, everyone in the office are very friendly and welcoming. Furthermore, I find the job very rewarding, and seeing smile in older people's face gives me satisfaction.
Jackie Baird - Recruiter
Hi! My Name is Jackie Baird, I have been working as an Administrator and Recruiter at Home Instead Senior Care – Greenwich & Bexley since 2016.
Prior to joining Home Instead, I worked in various sectors, but, my most recent job was in retail, working as an administrator. When an opportunity arose to join Home Instead, I did my own research as I hadn’t heard about Home Instead before and what I found out was amazing; I immediately fell in love with love with Home Instead and its ethos and culture. Motivated by an appalling care received by parents, I decided to make my career in care industry so that I make difference in peoples’ lives and I found Home Instead to be the ideal company.
Apart from supporting my Care Manager and Director, my other main role is to recruit for CAREgivers. As a recruiter, when I interview a potential CAREGiver, I always take her or him through a “Mum Test”, meaning, would I employ the person to care for my mum, and I never go wrong. I am very proud of the amazing work our CAREGivers are doing day in day out.
I have to say that the job is very rewarding and fulfilling and most importantly, I’m enjoying it very much!
Sneha Thapa - Quality Officer
Hi! My name is Sneha. I recently joined Home Instead as a Quality Officer, I support Registered Manager and other Key Player in day-to-day operation and maintaining standard as required by the Care Quality Commission.
Prior to joining Home Instead, I was at University College London (UCL) studying for a masters qualification, which I completed last year. My masters dissertation was on "Health & Welfare of Older Gurkha population in the UK". While conducting my research, I was shocked to discover how social care system in the UK is broken. I also found out how amazing job Home Instead Senior Care is doing by providing person-centered care to older people in the community and enabling them in remaining in their own homes for as long as possible. So, I decided to join the company in their mission to "changing the face of ageing" in the UK.
Sandra Jeffries-Beckley - Trainer/ Senior CAREGiver
Hi ! my name is Sandra Jeffries-Beckley. Alongside regular CAREGiving, I train new CAREGivers on our Learning & Development Programme.
I have had a career in Education for the last thirty years. I trained as a primary teacher in Cheltenham and started my career on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent. I moved around the country and took opportunities to develop my career specialising in Science, then English and reading. I was promoted as a Special Needs Co-ordinator, then Deputy Head and finally Head Teacher.
Recently I became more disillusioned with the Education system as I felt that individual children didn’t matter any more and they were put under more and more pressure leading to poor mental health. I was unsure what I wanted to do but I knew the job I did had to make a difference. At this time, I was spending each weekend caring for my in-laws and really enjoyed it. I felt I got to know them much better and was able to make a difference; brightening up their week and bringing laughter and joy. They were grateful for such small things. I realised I had a lot to give and would love to care for other people like them.
An advert for Home Instead popped up on my Facebook page at exactly the right time that I considered it was meant to be. I loved the company ethos of changing the face of care and focusing on the qualities of caregivers and then training them. I loved the idea that they carefully match caregivers to clients to improve the experience for both.
I can honestly say I have loved every minute. I always leave my charming clients with a smile on my face and a warm glow in my heart. I can’t wait until my next visit. They have enriched my life so much.
Jackie Pluck - CAREGiver
Hi! My name is Jackie Puck and I'm a CAREGiver at Home Instead Senior Care – Greenwich & Bexley, I joined Home Instead in 2015. Previously, I worked in schools, retail, and care. Most recently, I worked as a Carer with one of the well-known domiciliary care company but decided to leave as I was not happy there. I chose to work in homecare sector because I like the idea of providing care at home so that people can continue living in the community. However, not all homecare providers are doing what they supposed to do. In my past experience, I noticed that agencies are providing 15mins, half an hour call out, which means clients are rushed in this In and Out culture. When I came across Home Instead, I liked the relationship-based, person-centred care with a minimum of 1-hour call. I now can provide that highest level of care and also support my team to deliver the same level of care to our clients.
I really enjoy my job and am just glad that I’m a part of such a wonderful team at Home Instead Senior Care – Greenwich & Bexley.
Our Amazing CAREGivers
With Home Instead, Care means quality care. It means providing support that is completely personalised to the individual and is based on a close bond formed from personality similarities, shared experiences or interests. Therefore, it is extremely important that we choose our CAREGiver very carefully. Our CAREGiver Experience Manager Toni ensures that CAREGivers are carefully selected, highest standard of training is given and continuous support is provided.
Our CAREGivers are well trained individuals who have a genuine passion for caring; they undergo extensive back ground checks and only work with one or two Clients so they can visit at the time the Client requires. We are extremely proud of our CAREGivers many of whom go above and beyond the call of duty to take care of our clients. They are dedicated, hard-working and have a genuine desire to work in an environment where they help other and make a make a difference.
Marlie is our wonderfully good natured Australian Shepherd who is part of our Home Instead family here in Greenwich & Bexley. Although, he live with Jackie our Recruiter, he regularly attends the office. He played a very significant role in motivating our CAREGiver in Pursuing Excellent by Advancing Quality (PEAQ) 2019 survey at the office.
