On Friday 31st January I joined David Bassett from Home Instead East Hertfordshire, at Radio Hawks, a local community radio station, for the afternoon slot called Health and Well Being. I found it quite a daunting experience!

I was there to raise awareness of scams affecting the elderly. In the UK, mass marketing (also referred to as scam marketing), which includes the use of the internet, phones and post, makes up the largest proportion of fraud, between 2012 and 2013, 1 million (2%) of UK adults sent money in reply to unsolicited communications and just under one-half (almost 500,000 people) are believed to have been defrauded as a result, costing UK individuals an estimated £3.5 billion in total. We have partnered with Think Jessica, a charity which works to raise awareness of scams, and supports victims and their families, in order to spread the message about the scale of the problem and help protect seniors. We are holding FREE Scam Aware Workshops in Epping on 21st February, for older people, family members, carers and people throughout the community, who may be vulnerable themselves, or know people who may be a target for scammers. If you would like to attend our workshop then just ring me, Victoria, on 01992 666777 to book yourself a place.
