Ah, Easter. The daffodils are up, the clocks have sprung forward, and someone’s probably already bought you a chocolate egg you’re pretending to save for Sunday (no judgement if it’s already been opened). It’s the perfect time to head outdoors, enjoy a bit of fresh air, and remind ourselves what sunshine feels like.

Here in Epping Forest, we’re spoiled for choice. Whether it’s a short stroll, a scenic afternoon tea, or a roast dinner with all the trimmings, you don’t have to go far to have a lovely day out this Easter.

A Walk Without the Workout

Not every walk needs hiking boots and a backpack. Sometimes the best ones end with tea and a biscuit. Here are a few spots we love for a gentle amble:

  • High Beach – Easygoing paths, lovely views, and the kind of fresh air that makes you feel yourself coming along after winter.
  • Connaught Water – A lakeside walk that’s flat, peaceful, and usually full of hungry ducks. Very scenic, very relaxing, and you can bring a bag of birdseed to feed the wildlife.

Easter Lunch? Don’t Mind If We Do

There are plenty of local places ready to serve up hearty lunches whether you’re looking for a full roast or some pub grub.

 – Kings Oak, High Beach – Forest views, proper roast dinners, and room for pudding. The perfect spot to celebrate with a plate of something hot and gravy-covered.

The Woodbine Inn, Waltham Abbey – Warm, welcoming, and a menu that makes choosing genuinely difficult. You’ll probably end up having both the cake and the crumble. And why not?

The New Boar in Abridge – A relaxed lunch near the woodland edge with Mediterranean dishes in a bright, stylish setting with a touch of countryside charm.

More Than Chocolate - Yes, Really!

There’s so much to enjoy this season that doesn’t involve eating. Here’s our pick of Easter activities:

  • Pop to the garden centre for a walk among the spring blooms and seasonal displays.
  • Bake hot cross buns for family and neighbours, your Care Professionals can give a helping hand.
  • Attend an Easter sermon at your local church.
  • Drive through the forest to admire the blossom and spot the first bluebells.
  • Participate in a creative Easter Door Wreath Workshop hosted by The French Flower Company in Epping.
  • Visit a Memory Café or a local event and enjoy connecting with others in your local community.

In the Mood for Spring

You don’t need big plans or perfect weather (although we’ll happily take both). Easter is about enjoying the here and now – the laugh over lunch, the sound of birds nesting and getting out to get some much-needed sun after a long winter.
