Home Instead’s ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ scheme aims to give back to the older people in your local communities. It’s a great opportunity to touch the lives of older people in our area, who may be lonely during the festive period or may not receive a present this Christmas and to make a real difference at this special time of year.
We need you!
We would love for you to become involved in this great scheme by helping us to identify deserving older people in our community who would truly benefit from this scheme. This would involve providing a list of first names for the recipients, the type of gift that they might welcome at Christmas time and we may ask for your assistance to help distribute some of the gifts. Outlined below is a little more detail about the scheme and how it works.
An Introduction to Be a Santa to a Senior.
Be a Santa to Senior (BASTAS) was first introduced to Home Instead office across North America in 2006 and started small with only a few gifts being distributed to resident at a local nursing home. Since then Home Instead has helped provide 1.2 million gifts to more than 700,00 older people.
The campaign was launched in the East Hertfordshire and the Uttlesford area last year. Our office mainly covers Harlow and Sawbridgeworth and Much Hadham - over 300 Gifts were donated. This year with your help we hope to make the scheme bigger and better by identifying more deserving recipients and donating more Christmas present to older people. This year we would like to cover the following areas; Harlow, Sawbridgeworth, Lower Sheering, Bishops Stortford, Much Hadham and the surrounding areas.
How it works
- A small Christmas tree is placed at an agreed location. Confirmed so far are:
HairZone Second Avenue Harlow
The Harlow Arena Elizabeth Way, Harlow
Riverside Café Allen House Business Centre
The Shed The Maltings Sawbridgeworth
Mariposa Sawbridgeworth
……More to be Confirmed
- Each Tree Carries Be a Santa to Senior gift tag detailing a specific gift and the recipient first name or the name of location.
- A member of the public then selects a gift tag, purchases the gift and places it under the tree or hand both in at the point of purchase.
- Ideally, we would work with your volunteers to coordinate the collection, wrapping and delivery of the gift to the local older people on the recipient list, just in time for Christmas.
