Today’s media headlines report a care system under too much ‘stress and strain’ with stark statistics stemming from Care Quality Commission (CQC) data – revealing the scale of allegations of abuse. The data makes for shocking reading - more than 150 allegations of abuse against the frail and elderly lodged daily - and the CQC notified of 30,000 allegations of abuse involving people using social care services in the first six months of this year. Andrea Sutcliffe, the chief inspector of adult social care warns that a lack of funding and a broken system is ultimately turning good people into bad carers.
