When Jane Forshaw joined Home Instead Senior Care she didn’t realise that her initial training would be put to the test the very same night. Jane recalled "a girl had been attacked on the street and from my First Aid training I recognized the first signs of shock. Once I had her settled, the girl suffered an asthma attack, I knew I had to give out orders to passers by to fetch a nebulizer from the local pharmacist, but I also knew from the medication training that the girl had to administer it herself,” Jane felt so empowered with the knowledge she had gained.
Within 6 weeks Jane had her core clients that she met with each week, families were so pleased with her passion to care that they soon asked the office for extra hours. Jane was delighted and set about researching day trips and weekly events within the local community “I look for a safe environment such as an art exhibition, walking/singing groups, luncheon clubs, national trust parks… somewhere where we can have the opportunity for a casual conversation or meet new people which creates a life experience that can be shared with the family later.” One of Jane’s clients said after a spontaneous fish and chips lunch out “I feel young again, it’s lovely to have lunch with friends”
Commenting on the Home Instead service, Jane said: “The way in which Home Instead operates is unique. Home Instead matches us to our client – it works so well as they look for areas of common interest or life experience so that there is an immediate connection, this allows me to offer an exceptional service which makes my role very rewarding and gratifying.”
Jane Forshaw was awarded ‘Caregiver of the Month’ with Home Instead Altrincham. Karen Garner, Registered Care Manager said “Jane has been an inspirational Caregiver and is a very caring and empathetic”
Jane and her family have supported their mums care needs for many years and since seeing first hand the fexibility of care provided by Home Instead, Jane has recently asked if we could provide additional companionship and respite care to complement the families support.
