July was National Scam Awareness Month. Hosted by Citizens Advice and Trading Standards Services it aimed to give the public the skills and confidence to spot scams and take action to report suspicious activity.
Home Instead has partnered with the National Trading Standards Scam Team (NTSST) to fight fraud across the country to build upon our Senior Fraud Protection campaign which was launched in 2013.
A number of our CAREGivers at Home Instead Wetherby & North Leeds have recently completed a new and innovative e-learning programme designed by the NTSST and are trained to combat and report mass marketing scams.
In addition, we also offer a toolkit providing essential information and checklists to help families protect their loved ones.
We already have experience of intervening when it really matters on behalf of our clients and we will be sharing our knowledge at a series of talks with clients and their families and several neighbourhood groups.
Director of Home Instead Wetherby & North Leeds, Simon White commented: “Statistics estimate that fraud costs people in the UK £3.5bn each year and 48% of people in the UK have been targeted. Scams are becoming ever more sophisticated and the emotional distress and financial loss caused to the elderly and other vulnerable people can be devastating. It is our intention to be part of the solution and we have several CAREGivers fully trained and ready to help”
