CARE – Changing Aging through Research and Education – is a specialised Alzheimer’s and dementia training programme developed exclusively for Home Instead that focuses on caring for the whole person. It is City & Guilds accredited and provides our CAREGivers with the knowledge and tools necessary to help meet the individual needs of each client. The CARE training programme covers best practices for working with clients with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, including Techniques to Manage Behaviours, Encouraging Client Engagement, Assisting with Activities of Daily Living and Keeping Clients Safe. In 2010 it was estimated there were 35.6 million people living with dementia worldwide and that this number will increase to 65.7 million by 2030. Here in the UK there are currently over 750,000 people with dementia and there will be over a million by 2021. Home Instead Wetherby and North Leeds are committed to providing the highest level of care and recognise that training our CAREGivers is key to this objective. Margaret Brennan, owner of Home Instead Wetherby and North Leeds, stated “We want to support our clients so that they can retain their independence and be able to stay in their own homes. With CARE training our CAREGivers are equipped to support those affected by dementia.”
