With large parts of the UK having experienced heavy snowfall on 10th December 2017, we saw a big impact on our road surfaces, footpaths and widespread disruption which affected travel throughout the country.
We wanted to thank and give recognition to our amazing team of CAREGivers for all they have done during this time and the days to follow to ensure our vulnerable clients still received the service they required.
Firstly, we would like to thank Katia one of our team leaders for the amazing work, determination and commitment she gave. Katia is part of our on-call team and was managing the emergency phone during this time. Not only do weather conditions cause travel disruption, it also causes communities to be cut off. One of our clients experienced a power cut and Katia made sure she did not leave someone vulnerable without offering a helping hand. She made her way to assist and continued to walk 4 miles in freezing cold temperatures after her car got stuck in these adverse weather conditions. Katia managed all of this whilst dealing with the emergency on-call phone and we think she really is a superhero!
Secondly, we would like to thank Jan. Jan was one of our first ever CAREGivers and does an amazing job each and every day. On Sunday 10th when large amounts of snow fell across Hertfordshire, Jan walked for two and half hours in order to visit one of her regular clients at their scheduled time. We feel this really shows loyalty, selflessness and dedication.
Thirdly, we would like to acknowledge our Director Peter. Peter braved the weather conditions to help those CAREGivers who were unable to move their vehicles or did not feel confident to drive their vehicles. He also came to the assistance of one of our CAREGivers the following evening at 7.30pm. He braved the freezing conditions to help one of our team who had their car stuck on a rock which was not visible in the snow and Ice. It was a long and difficult task but Peter managed to move the vehicle which enabled our CAREGiver to return home safely. Peter gave his time to ensure our CAREGivers safety and ensure our clients at Home Instead Watford had their usual service and needs met.
We greatly appreciate everyone who continued to work during this winter weather. The winter storm hit us quickly and we would like to give thanks for responding so positively to ensure everything kept running as smoothly as possible.
