Supporting Dementia Action Week 2019
We are so proud to be working with businesses and community groups from across Watford to bring Dementia Action Week to life in our local community and to make Watford a more dementia friendly town.
Alzheimer’s Society estimate that over 1,000 people in Watford are living with Dementia and many more will be caring for loved ones with this disease. Most of us will know someone affected by Dementia, but too many people living with the condition report feeling like they are facing it alone. This programme of events underpins a shared goal that we feel so passionately about at Home Instead Watford: To support those living with Dementia and to make our town a more Dementia friendly place to live.
Please join us and our partners for a series of events and initiatives happening across the town so that we can make it happen together. There will be events taking place every day in Watford from Monday 20th through to Friday 24th May:
Monday: Home Instead Watford are bringing a virtual reality tour bus to Intu Watford (Centre Atrium) where members of the public can come to experience just a little bit of the reality of living with Dementia.
Tuesday: An event at Watford Football Club where people can go to celebrate and to thank all of those people who are caring for those with Dementia.
Wednesday: We are working with Herts Musical Memories to hold a free singing session for people living with Dementia and their carers at St Mary’s church from 10.30am - 12.30pm. Come for a sing-a-long and stay for coffee and cake afterwards.
Thursday: Come to Watford Central Library for a Dementia Friends session. Dementia Friends is a programme run by Alzheimer’s Society and is the biggest ever initiative aiming to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about Dementia. Come along for a free 1 hour session run by our co-owners Alexis and Peter at either 10am, 11.15am or 2.30pm to find out a little bit more information about how you can improve the lives of those living with Dementia.
Friday: The last event will be a well-deserved free pampering session for those living with Dementia and their carers at Intu Watford on the ground floor outside Marks and Spencer from 10am to 4pm.
You need to sign up for some of these events in advance, so please go and sign up and find out more at the website https://www.dementiafriendlywa... follow us on Facebook to keep updated with information about all of these fantastic events.
Let’s work together to make Watford an even more dementia friendly town. It’s time to take action so please get involved!
