As demand for care of the elderly increases, a business specialising in caring for the elderly in their own homes has opened an office in Watford and is set to create 50 jobs in the area.
Owner, Peter Neighbour, has set up the new Watford office of the national award winning home care company, Home Instead. The new office will be providing care services across Watford, Bushey, Northwood, Rickmansworth, Stanmore and surrounding areas.
Previously a chartered accountant, Peter was keen to enter the care sector following his experience with his aunt who suffered with Alzheimer’s disease. He had tried to find at-home care to enable her to remain in her home for as long as possible. However, after failing to find the right care to suit her requirements, there was no option for her but to move into a residential home where she rapidly went downhill and sadly passed away two months later.
Commenting, Peter said “I am sure that my aunt would have lived longer and been happier in her own home, I want to provide this choice for other people. The ethos of Home Instead really stood out to me as they focus on service first and business second; a lot of other companies are the other way around. I want to provide a service that I would be happy to use for myself and my family.”
Home Instead’s main aim is to help people retain as much of their independence as possible by enabling them to remain in their own homes. Peter and his Care Manager Amber Morris, want to talk to local people with compassionate and caring natures who are interested in working with elderly people. Candidates don’t need to have experience in the care sector as they will receive excellent training, but they may well have experience looking after a relative or friend.
Home Instead services are flexible to the needs of each at-home client. These can include personal care such as assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and medications; home help covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping, meal preparation and household duties; and companionship services that can involve everything from escorting clients on visits or appointments to simple conversation and good company.
Whilst the principal services involve the day-to-day care of older people in their own homes, Home Instead also provides a range of specialist services, which include Alzheimer’s and dementia care, convalescence and respite care.
