May 21st - Bringing together the community for Health and Wellness

The sun came out on Tuesday 21st May just in time for our Home Instead Community Health & Wellness over 50’s lifestyle event held at Lord Street West Church in Southport.

Held for the first year, the event co-organised with Bernie Summer at Zest for Life, featured a jam-packed schedule of FREE wellness activities, pampering treatments and entertainment from local schools, with over 300 people attending on the day.

Amongst the activities available were the opportunity to try yoga, Thai chi, Mindfulness and even get health screenings all in one place.

The Home Instead team along with volunteers from the Rotary Club, Sefton Veterans and Zest for Life were on hand all day to signpost people and offer a helping hand.

With smiles all round, visitors left feeling equipped with resources and shared their enjoyment for the day.

One said, “Excellent idea to get people together young or old” , with another commenting “Thank you to all the people I have met today, It has been a wonderful success.”

Over 28 organisations came together in the main hall offering information and support for people to access at their leisure.

Organisations who attended shared their feedback with us:

“A fantastic interactive community event full of useful information, relaxation and fun!” - The Good Care Group
“It was a good chance to meet others and re-establish contacts  for the future”
- Southport Football Club
“We found this to be a friendly, informal event, in a comfortable environment that encouraged positive interaction between visitors and stallholders.”
- Merseytravel

Home Instead event organiser, Michaela Navis
, was delighted with the turnout and was happy to see the public and organisations engage with all the activities available.

“As an organisation it is our mission to help as many people as possible in Southport & Formby to live well at home, so by offering this community spirit event, not only are we getting all the information for people in one place, we are in some cases making people more socially inclusive and happy, even if it is for a few hours. It all makes a difference.”

As part of the day, Sefton Veteran & Ainsdale Lunch & Leisure managed a prize raffle fundraiser which pulled together donated prizes from local business and organisations in Southport, the raffle raised £200 which will be shared between both charities to help people in the community. Well Done!
