To help protect older people throughout the UK, Home Instead have joined up with “Think Jessica” to create an educational kit. Home Instead's Senior Fraud Prevention Kit is available FREE to everyone in the community. The kit contains lots of useful information, advice and handy checklists to help keep you and your family safe.
Between 2012 and 2013, 1 million (2%) of UK adults sent money in reply to unsolicited communications and just under one-half (almost 500,000) of elderly people living in their own homes are likely to be amongst the victims, so carers need to be extra vigilant in order to recognise the condition, so they can protect the elderly person.
To take our message out into the community the Southport office has recently organised training events for our CAREGiver's, those who have attended already have been trained to recognise the signs of a possible fraud threat and to help their clients, they are using a unique Fraud Protection Tool kit to help other people to do the same.
Home Instead are now offering Senior Fraud Prevention awareness workshops to anyone in the community, that wishes to learn more. These sessions are free and are run along side our popular Dementia awareness work shops.
Irene Hough who has delivered the training has been overwhelmed by the feedback she has received from those who have already attended. She said " I knew that this type of fraud was more common than you would first imagine, however, I was not prepared to have at least one person on each session, approach me to report a concern about unsolicited mail and various scams, targeting older people that they visit. The problem is massive and I am relieved that we are able to raise awareness and hopefully prevent some people from falling victim to these callous fraudsters"
