Home Instead Southport announces Free dementia workshops

Home Instead is pleased to announce that we are running a number of Free dementia Workshops.

These are available to local families, businesses, charities, voluntary organisations, public sector workers and community groups throughout the Southport, Formby and Crosby area.  The initial workshops are to be held in May 2013 to coincide with National Dementia Awareness week which is 19t h - 25th May. At Home Instead we are keen to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and we aim to provide much needed support to our local community. We will do this by calling upon our expertise and experience in running our own specialist dementia training, which is fully accredited by City & Guilds and is the only one of its kind in the UK.

The aim of offering these workshops is to raise awareness and improve the standards for dementia sufferers in our local community. It is a great opportunity for any person who would like to understand more about Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias and  will give people further skills and knowledge to enable them to care for a  loved one.  It is also useful for businesses in the local community that may have customers with dementia or anyone who might come into regular contact with people displaying signs of dementia through their day to day work.

One of our key aims is to have a representative from as many local families, businesses, charities, voluntary organisations, public sector worker organisations and community groups at one of our workshops and then go back and cascade the training and awareness information to others within their family or their organisation. This will help Home Instead to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in the local community and will move the local community closer to being a dementia friendly society.

The first two workshops will be held in our office at 63 Scarisbrick New Road, Southport, PR8 6PA (next door to The Big Picture Children’s Nursery) on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd May from 10am to 3.30pm and lunch will be provided.  Please call the office on 01704 547938 to reserve your place or to discuss further dates to be confirmed.
