On Friday the 8th May, Home Instead Southport and Crosby celebrated the 70th anniversary of VE day at our Southport office. We invited some of our lovely Clients and our CAREGiver’s to join in on the celebrations and listened to some fascinating stories told by people who were present on the day the Second World War ended.
We decorated the room in a war time theme, sporting union jack bunting with remnants of old street parties. We had acquired old postcards, pictures of war memorabilia and also vintage ration books, to give more of a feel of what it was like to live in that time. It really was fascinating to see all of our Clients enjoying the celebrations and even took the time to talk the younger generations through what these war time artefacts were and how they functioned during such a difficult period. We also had plenty of refreshments, light and fluffy cake, tea, coffee and sandwiches for all to indulge in. We even had some carbolic soap and sweets from old past times to sample.
Home Instead also organised some light entertainment in the form of a lovely couple, who specialised in singing war time songs and other entertainment. They really were very talented and we would recommend them to anybody who is thinking of hosting an event like this.
Overall Home Instead Southport is proud to of celebrated VE day with our lovely clients and our passionate CAREGiver’s. We believe that hosting these events is important to remind us of what the older generation did for us all those years ago and we will be celebrating many more occasions in the future.
