International Day Of Friendship

Today is International Day Of Friendship and our CAREGiver Sarah shares a little thought about the friends she has made during her time here at Home Instead Southend.

“I started with my first client back in January 2020, when the world made a little more sense. In no time at all I built a lovely repour with my client, stemming from her wicked sense of humour, often telling me some cheeky jokes.

As the world went into lockdown and my client’s own health and mobility taking a turn for the worse, I wondered how I would handle her care.

I was soon introduced to fellow CAREGiver’s Lisa and Charlie, two outstanding ladies who along with myself would double up in the supporting and meeting our lady’s needs.

The thought of working with them gave me great comfort and together we assisted with building my client back up, to the point where she was happy and cheeky once again.

The friendships I have built throughout the pandemic will stay with me forever, not only the professional friendships I hold with my clients but those I hold with my colleagues, I am so grateful for their help.

I came into the care sector knowing that my job would be to provide care and support to other’s. I never imagined I would receive so much back as a result.”

Did you know?

That here at Home Instead we match our clients and CAREGivers based on mutual interests, personality traits and the type of care a client may need. We do this by really getting to know the people who work for us and who we provide support too.  We strongly believe in the benefits of relationship-led care, so we ensure that our clients see the same familiar faces every time. To not only build trust, establish friendly relationships but to enable our clients to continue to live a full and happy life whilst remaining at home.

The friendships formed between our clients and CAREGivers are powerful ways of preventing and eradicating loneliness! Through spending quality time with our clients, CAREGivers become not only a trustworthy support system, but they will also become a friend – something many older people say they need.

Studies show that strong social connections are one of the pillars of good mental wellbeing, making days such as today, International Friendship Day, all the more important! One of our key aims at Home Instead is to improve the lives of older people through fantastic relationship-led care.
