This week our network won Silver in the "Best Place to Work" category at the UK Customer Experience Awards.
We already knew how our CareGivers feel about being part of Home Instead (96% of them are proud to work here) but it’s great to get national recognition like this. We were up against household from many different sectors (not just Care) so this is an achievement that really means something.
But for me, perhaps the most important aspect about the win is that demonstrates, once again, that all care jobs aren’t the same. Care doesn’t always have a great reputation as a career – and it’s not hard to understand why when you read stories of harassed carers rushing from one fifteen minute call to the next, barely having time to say hello to their client, let alone build up any kind of relationship. But it doesn’t have to be this way, as this Award proves.
Respect - a two-way street.
At Home Instead South Manchester we’re every bit as concerned with being a good employer as we are about delivering a responsive, attentive, tailored service to our Clients. And the reason why is very simple – we believe the two go hand in hand. How can we expect our team to treat their Clients with care and respect if we’re not prepared to do the same for them. That’s why we make sure they have all the training and support they need and make sure they know how much we value them and the great job they do. And because all our calls last at least an hour they always have the time to get to know their clients.
Trevor, our CEO, put it very succinctly so I’ll leave the final word to him.
“Ultimately, we know that if we have happy CAREGivers, we’ll also have happy Clients."
