Christmas is almost upon us so it’s time to deliver the gifts we’ve collected through our Be A Santa to A Senior programme.
This was the first year we’ve run the scheme so we weren’t sure exactly how many presents we’d receive. We thought, if we were lucky, we might get 100. Well, it seems we underestimated the generosity of the South Manchester community: at the last count, and there are still more coming in, the number of presents donated was... OVER 400! Our training room has been looking more like Santa’s Grotto than anything else for the last few days.
All the local businesses and organisations that volunteered to collect the gifts have done brilliantly but special mention must go to Gina at Noesis’ Coffee shop in Urmston and to Chorlton High School who both collected boxes and boxes!
Of course all these gifts had to be wrapped and we would’ve really struggled if we hadn’t had the help of the folks at The LDS Church in Stretford and the children in Year 8 at Chorlton High. The kids demonstrated energy, commitment and teamwork that should have made their parents and teachers proud.
So thanks to absolutely everyone involved, from Natwest branches throughout our community to the Withington Fire Brigade. You’ll all helped to bring a tremendous amount of joy to a lot of lonely older people this Christmas.
