Be A Santa to A Senior
Last year we ran our first ever Be A Santa to A Senior scheme. The idea was to tap into the generosity of the people in our local community to help collect presents for older people who would be spending Christmas alone. We knew there were many seniors who wouldn’t be receiving a single gift and wanted to do something about it.
Not having done anything like this before we didn’t really know how many gifts, if any, people might donate so we were totally amazed when over 400 presents were donated!
Having seen the joy these gift brought to deserving older people, we’ve decided to run the scheme again – in fact we’ve expanded it! In addition to collecting in Chorlton, Urmston and Flixton, this year we’re going to asking the good people of Didsbury to play their part too.
The scheme is really simple. We’ve set up a number of collection point around the South Manchester area where anyone who wants to take part can take their gift. We’ll then take them to Chorlton High School, where the brilliant kids from Year 7 will be helping us to wrap any unwrapped presents. Then, just in time for Christmas, a bunch of Santa’s Little Helpers from local businesses and organisations will be delivering the gifts to older people throughout our community.
So, if you’d like to bring the real festive spirit to a lonely older person this Christmas check back soon for the list of place you can leave your gift. However big or small it will bring real joy.
