Bringing Joy to Older Communities

I joined the board of trustees at the Bring Joy Foundation last month. What is the Bring Joy Foundation? We are a national charity that was created to improve the quality of life for older people all over the UK.

We aim to help local community groups, charities and organisations to BRING JOY into the lives of older people living in the community. Our intention is to provide funding for  local events organised by charities and community groups. In doing so we want to play a part in enriching the lives of older people and in combating loneliness.

We want to help with the funding for activities such as day trips to the seaside, tea dances or exercise classes. During the Covid-19 pandemic we even provided Facebook Portal devices to elderly individuals who were isolated from their families. The aim was to reduce isolation and loneliness and help families stay connected with loved ones who might not previously have used this kind of technology.

As well as supporting the charity's national operations by being a trustee, I am naturally keen to help organisations in communities local to the two Home Instead offices I run. Our home care office for Scarborough and Ryedale is based on Scalby Road in Scarborough.

If you are involved with a local charity or community group in York, Scarborough or Ryedale and would like to find out more then please do get in touch with me by emailing [email protected]

Like so many other charities at the moment, fundraising will be an essential activity so please do look out for our fundraising activities and help to raise awareness of The Home Instead Bring Joy Foundation.
