Pride in Care

We attended the Home Instead Care Managers conference yesterday and heard from Alice Wallace, Director of Opening Doors London, about the importance of working with an ageing LGBT+ community, who increasingly need care support as traditional family relationships may not be in place.

It was a real eye opener to think about how older LGBT+ people have lived through a time when it was illegal to be in a same sex relationship, and their anxieties about who they inform about their sexual orientation, means that today they are still wary of being judged by people they don't know.

Great learning for us for when we prepare our Care Plans, and the importance of us at Home Instead Richmond being confident with peoples differences and making sure that we understand all of who our clients are.
